Curriculum

At Avenue Preschool, children are actively involved in a developmentally-appropriate curriculum that emphasizes the social, emotional, physical and academic aspects of their development.

Our curriculum includes:

The curriculum provides enriching experiences with language arts and literacy, math problem solving skills, science exploration, social studies concepts, small and large motor skills, music, art, dramatic play, and sensory activities. The children's days also include a nutritious snack and outdoor playground time.

Programs

Avenue Preschool offers classes for children ages 3, 4 and 5 as outlined in the sections below. The regular school year begins in September and runs through May. Further information can be found as follows:

Pre-Kindergarten Program

The Pre-Kindergarten program is for children who have turned four by August 31st of the school year (4-years-old before starting at Avenue Preschool). Families choose either a 2, 3, 4 or 5-morning per week session. Children ages 4-5 prepare for kindergarten through the exposure to a variety of hands-on early childhood education units and fun learning centers. Our staff of teachers and assistants have a common goal--to provide children with an atmosphere in which they can develop a positive view of themselves, which will help them successfully transition into kindergarten.

Beginners Program

The Beginners program is for children who have turned three by August 31st of the school year (3-years-old before starting at Avenue Preschool). Families select either a 2-morning per week or 3-morning per week session. Teachers and assistants of the Beginners classes support children with developing skills for building strong self-reliance and positive social interaction. The children's days are filled with plenty of opportunities to actively explore the classroom's enriching learning centers.

Lunch Bunch

We offer the option for our students to enjoy an extended day at "Lunch Bunch." This program runs on certain afternoons October through May, and is a popular, fun time filled with continued enrichment opportunities.

Pre-K students' Lunch Bunch sessions are from 12:00-3:00. Beginners' Lunch Bunch sessions are from 12:00-2:00.

Summer Camp

Several week-long summer day camps are offered for children who have completed the school year at Avenue Preschool.

Summer camp takes place from 9:00-12:00 Monday through Friday during certain weeks. Registration begins in May and continues until all spots are filled. To register your child, please contact the preschool office. Annual details about registration will be located here and placed on our "News and Events" page as camp time approaches (updated in the spring of each year prior to camp registration). Registration information is also sent home with current preschool families each spring.

Camps include snacks, fun crafts, indoor & outdoor activities, and special events.
